Glen Dale Elementary School Joins Forces with the New Balance Foundation

Glen Dale Elementary Billion Mile Race

Glen Dale Elementary School Fourth Grade Students run laps in gym class to participate in the Billion Mile Race sponsored by the New Balance Foundation.

Glen Dale Elementary is one of only eight schools in West Virginia running in the New Balance Foundation Billion Mile Race created by ChildObesity180 at Tufts University.  There are more than 1,300 schools across the United States involved in the program this year.

The goal is to have America’s schools collectively run, jog and walk one billion miles.  Students run at the beginning of their Physical Education classes for a few minutes. Laps are recorded and converted to miles.  Students are given incentives for reaching certain milestones.

For the past two years, Glen Dale Elementary has participated in the New Balance Foundation’s 100 mile club which encouraged students to log 100 or more miles during the school year.
