Before graduation took place in June of 1962, I had taken the Civil Service Test and three days after graduation I boarded a Greyhound Bus and left Moundsville to go to Washington, DC and work for the Voice of America. I lived in an all Women's Hotel in Silver Springs, MD and rode a Bus to downtown DC every day. I went with a group of nine girls: 5 from Cameron High and 4 from Bishop Donahue. I only stayed in DC for a period of three months and came back to WV, (guess I didn't like the fast pace)...and went to work for Pittsburgh Plate Glass Co., Chemical Div., Natrium, WV., as the Secretary for the Senior Buyer in the Purchasing Dept. After having my Daughter, I went back to work for American Electric Power who was building the Mitchell Power Plant on Rt. #2, South of Moundsville...worked there until the plant was completed and went into operation and then moved on to Ohio County Schools, working at Lincoln School, which was a Center for Special Needs Students, until 1984 at which time my Daughter graduated from Wheeling Park High School. In October of 84, Tracy entered the U.S. Army as a Spanish Linguist and was stationed in Panama for 3 1/2 years and I quit my job in WV.. and followed my husband, Dale Bush, to Mentor, OH, where he was transferred in his line of work as a Construction Superintendent...and I went to work in the Mentor School System. We have 12 Grand-Children, 9 Great-Grand-Children...and they live all over...no-one is close in vicinity. So, everyone takes turns of doing the traveling...and thank goodness for the gadget called a "Computer." We do..."Get Mail & Pics." That's what we wait for ...are those pictures of the little ones when we can't be there with them.
I retired as of July 1, 2009 from the Mentor School System and Dale (who has been retired) and I have been traveling ever since. We left Mentor on 7-7-09 and went to Sault Ste. Marie, MI., (Upper Peninsula) where we set up our RV on the St. Mary's River in a little place called Barbeau, MI. (30 miles from civilization...Dead Zone for Cell Phones, TV, Internet...it's great..) We left to come home 9-15-09. We had visitors come see us in Barbeau from Wheeling, WV; Grand Rapids, MI; Mt. Pleasant, MI. I do not miss work at all...yet!! Read a lot of books, went fishing, boat rides, watched sunsets, played cards, domino's, put puzzles together, played board games, (i.e. Clue, The Game of Life, Risk). I'm sure some of you remember those games!! It's nice to just lay back sometimes and relax in this fast paced world of today and go back to a little bit of yesteryear!!
I think we all should "thank" Donna Durbin and Mick Burk for all the work they do in keeping all of the Classmates, of the Class of 1962, informed of all the goings on ... in and around town, whether it is about one of our /your friend(s) and their health, if their child has had a grandchild, or if a classmate is moving, etc. Like myself, being an only child, it helps me to feel connected to "home." No matter how long you have been away, nor how many "friend(s)" you have where you are ...at this place in time...you "never forget" where you came from, nor the "friends" you have "back home." You always carry that spot in your "heart" and it never goes away.
I hope to see you all at Perkins one day for Dinner. I'll surprise you!!
