When I was born I lived at 218 Olive Avenue, but we only lived there until I was 4 years old. From there we moved to Limestone. I started school at Limestone Elementary and was there for my first eight years with such notable teachers as Nancy Barr Underdonk, Joan High, Ethel Snedeker, Opal Burner, and Arthur Hubbs.
In 1960 we had to move back to Moundsville due to my dad's health. There we set up shop at 444 Clinton Avenue. After finishing high school at M.H.S, I worked at U.S. Stamping for six months and then being cut due to a lay-off. Along the way I worked for Bud Cleaners and Lance Corp.
I joined the Air Force in August of 1963 and got out in July of 1967. I spent my last tour of duty in Iceland for 10 months. I also was in the Philippine Islands for 3 months and on the way to the Philippines I got to spend 4 days in Hawaii.
I have two daughters, Michelle (Asst. Mgr. for Dairy Mart in Glen Dale) and Heather who is a Seventh Grade Math teacher in Sanford, NC. Heather has two boys who are 15 and 10. I have a step-daughter here in Moundsville, Julie Cox and her husband Chad, who have a son Tyler who is 34 months old. My wife is Teresa Ann Baker Church who is a floor supervisor for Krogers in Moundsville.
I went to work for CONSOL Coal in April of 1968 and again the lay-off hit. I was a Section Foreman there. In April of 1980, I went to work for Kitt Energy Mine in Philippi, WV. I worked there until June of 1981, when I was called to Mobay Chemical Company for a job. I started there on June 22, 1981 and retired on August 1, 2005 after 24 years of service.
I spend as much time as possible with the grand kids, and as always like to attend our class dinners and keep up with my classmates and friends.
To all my classmates, I want to wish you nothing but the very best, and health and happiness.
