Michael Burk
Mick, as he has been known as since childhood, graduated from West Liberty State College in 1967 and began teaching Science in Marshall County Schools that year. This was also the year that he and Susan Wilson were married. They have two children, Amy once of Richmond VA living now in Moundsville and Matthew once of Denver CO living now in Moundsville with his wife Paige and son Marcus.
His entire career in Education has been with the Junior High age students in Marshall County. In 1979 he began his duties in school administration as an Assistant Principal at Moundsville Junior High. His 21 years in school administration included Principalships at Union Junior High and at Sherrard Junior High where he retired.
Mick likes to refer to his career ambition from the Yearbook of becoming a “Wildlife Manager” as an insight into his actual career accomplishments. Thirty-three years in the Junior High environment might just qualify as achieving this ambition.
| Mick and Susan have been classmates for over 53 years as they entered First Grade together as well as some Sunday school classes before starting formal school. Now he assists Donna Best Durbin in the maintenance of the Alumni records for the Moundsville High Class of 1962. Mick’s time now is consumed with all of those “retired people” things to do. He joins the others that are so busy with things to do that he seems to be working harder after retirement than before. A couple part-time jobs along with all of those “honey-do” jobs keep him busy but he still finds time to play on the computer. |
