WJMH Media: Connecting, entertaining, and informing the John Marshall High School Community

Program Description:

Students enrolled in broadcasting classes learn how to produce content, work with digital and video cameras, and edit pictures and video using top-of-the-line equipment and software. Students get to work on the WJMH Media crew, which is a student run broadcasting service of Marshall County Schools. WJMH Media works throughout the community to produce many shows including weekly newscasts, sporting events, concerts, competitions, and parades. The students are involved in every aspect of these productions including on-air and behind the scenes. These productions air daily on West Liberty University’s TV station, WLU-TV, Comcast channel 14. Other productions and behind the scenes photos can be viewed on WJMH Media’s Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram pages.

During the 2017-2018 school year, some of these productions were submitted to the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Awards. Three 2018 graduates attended the awards banquet at Drexel University in Philadelphia last May and received nominations in 2 categories: Weekly Newscast (WJMH Reports) and Long Form (Dancing with the Ohio Valley Stars). Other accomplishments for WJMH Media students include being awarded a $1,000 scholarship through the National Technical Honor Society.
